The Importance of School District When Buying A Home

By now, all the kids are back in school so why not talk about the importance of school district when buying a home. Buying a home is a personal decision so there is no right or wrong answer. However, it is a smart decision to consider the quality of school districts in your home buying decision. Why? Because when it comes to resale, homes in great school districts tend to sell faster and, during tougher economic times, usually hold their value more than homes in lower quality school districts.

As we all know, real estate never comes with guarantees. But what is certain is that parents will always want the best school they can afford for their kids. So if your home is in a good school district, it is highly likely there will always be demand for homes in your area. In a 2018 Realtor.com survey, 73% of successful buyers surveyed indicated school boundaries were important to their search. What is even more interesting is that 78% of the buyers for whom schools were important said they had to compromise on home features in order to get in the good school districts, with giving up garages and remodeled kitchens as the top sacrifices.

In the Conejo Valley, we are fortunate to have excellent and highly ranked school districts. Many people moving in to our area do so because of the great schools. Test scores and accelerated program offerings tend to be top the factors many buyers see as a hallmark of good schools. Popular sites like greatschools.org also and https://www.usnews.com/education/best-high-schools also help buyers determine top school districts in their home search.
